In these Terms of Service ("Terms"), the following defined terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them below. Any reference to the singular shall include the plural and vice versa, and any reference to one gender shall include all genders. Headings are for convenience only and shall not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
"Account" means any account, profile, or registration that you create, establish, or maintain with the Service, including but not limited to accounts created through direct registration, accounts created through Third-Party Authentication Providers, trial accounts, free accounts, paid subscription accounts, and any successor, replacement, or substitute accounts created in connection with your use of the Service.

Monthly allocations reset at the beginning of each billing cycle; top-up credits do not expire while your paid subscription remains active.

"Extension" means the Honest Headlines browser extension, plugin, add-on, or similar software component designed to integrate with web browsers, including but not limited to versions developed for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and any other compatible browser platform, together with any updates, upgrades, modifications, or successor versions thereof.

These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Honest Headlines governing your access to and use of the Service. By accessing, using, downloading, installing, registering for, subscribing to, or otherwise interacting with the Service, you expressly acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by all terms and conditions set forth in these Terms, as they may be amended, modified, or updated from time to time in accordance with Section 17 below.
IF YOU DO NOT AGREE WITH ANY PROVISION OF THESE TERMS, YOU MUST NOT ACCESS OR USE THE SERVICE, AND YOU MUST IMMEDIATELY CEASE ALL USE OF THE SERVICE AND DELETE OR REMOVE ANY INSTALLED COMPONENTS OF THE SERVICE FROM YOUR DEVICES.
Your continued use of the Service following the posting of any modifications or updates to these Terms shall constitute your binding acceptance of such modifications or updates. These Terms should be read in conjunction with our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated herein by reference, and any other policies, guidelines, or notices that may be referenced herein or made available through the Service.
Honest Headlines is a browser extension and web application that uses artificial intelligence to analyse news headlines, providing users with bias assessments, source credibility verification, contextual information, and rewritten "honest" versions of headlines stripped of emotional language, clickbait, and spin. The Service is provided on a subscription basis with usage limits as described in Section 6.
The Service is currently available for Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and other Chromium-based browsers. We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to add or remove platform support at any time without prior notice. The Service is available globally, but certain features may be limited based on local regulations. We reserve the right to restrict access from any jurisdiction at our sole discretion. Users are responsible for ensuring their use complies with local laws.
Important Disclaimers: The Service provides AI-generated analysis for informational purposes only and should not be relied upon as the sole source of truth. Analysis results reflect AI interpretation and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or biases. The "honest headline" rewrites are AI-generated alternatives, not definitive statements of fact. Bias ratings and credibility assessments are algorithmic outputs, not editorial endorsements. Users are responsible for verifying information and exercising independent judgment. The Service does not constitute journalism, fact-checking, or professional advice.
The Service requires users to be at least sixteen (16) years of age for self-registration. Users between thirteen (13) and sixteen (16) years of age may only use the Service with verified parental or legal guardian consent, where such consent is required by applicable law in the user's jurisdiction. Users under thirteen (13) years of age are prohibited from using the Service under any circumstances.
By creating an Account, you represent and warrant that: (a) you are at least sixteen (16) years of age; or (b) you are between thirteen (13) and sixteen (16) years of age and have obtained verifiable consent from a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms on your behalf. Parents and guardians who consent on behalf of minors assume full responsibility for that minor's use of the Service and agree to be bound by these Terms. We reserve the right to terminate any Account where we reasonably believe age requirements have been misrepresented.
To access certain features of the Service, you must create an Account by providing accurate, current, and complete information as prompted during registration. You agree to maintain and promptly update your Account information to keep it accurate, current, and complete. Both individuals and authorised representatives of businesses or organisations may create Accounts. If registering on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.
You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your Account credentials and for all activities that occur under your Account. Each Account is for single-user use only. You may install the Extension on multiple personal devices but may not share login credentials with any third party. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your Account or any other breach of security. We reserve the right to terminate Accounts showing signs of credential sharing, with no refund of any kind.
We offer a Free Trial that provides five (5) headline Analyses at no cost, subject to Account registration. The Free Trial is available once per user, as determined by email address, device fingerprint, payment method, and other identifying factors. Attempts to create multiple Accounts for the purpose of obtaining additional Free Trial credits constitute fraud and grounds for immediate termination without notice.
We reserve the right to reclaim any fraudulently obtained credits and to pursue any legal remedies available. The Free Trial is provided to allow you to evaluate the Service before making any financial commitment. By proceeding to a paid Subscription after using the Free Trial, you acknowledge that you have had adequate opportunity to assess the Service.
The Service is offered under the following subscription tiers, each with specified Analysis Credits and features:
Unused monthly Analysis allocations do not roll over to the following billing period. Each billing cycle begins with a fresh allocation based on your subscription tier. Top-Up credits, however, remain available until used or until your paid Subscription ends.
All payments are processed securely through Stripe, our third-party payment processor. Payments are processed in GBP (British Pounds Sterling) for users in the United Kingdom, and in USD (United States Dollars) for users in all other regions. The applicable currency is determined automatically based on your billing location. Any currency conversion fees imposed by your bank or payment provider are your sole responsibility. Displayed prices include applicable VAT/taxes where required by law.
Monthly subscriptions are billed on the same calendar day each month. Annual subscriptions are billed on the anniversary date. If your payment method fails, we will attempt to charge again. If payment fails after three (3) attempts over seven (7) days, your Subscription may be downgraded or suspended.
We reserve the right to modify pricing at any time. For existing subscribers, price changes take effect at the next renewal period. We will endeavour to provide fourteen (14) days' notice of price increases via email, but failure to provide such notice shall not affect the validity of the price change.
By subscribing to the Service, you expressly request and consent to the immediate commencement of the Service before the expiry of the fourteen (14) day cancellation period provided under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (or equivalent legislation in your jurisdiction). You acknowledge that you have been informed of, and expressly agree to, the consequences of this request as set forth in this Section 7.
You retain the right to cancel your Subscription within fourteen (14) days of the initial purchase date. However, as you have requested immediate service commencement, if you cancel during this period, you are liable to pay a proportionate amount for the Service supplied up to the point of cancellation.
Calculation of Proportionate Amount: The proportionate amount shall be calculated as the sum of:
To request a cancellation within the fourteen-day period, email support@honesthead.com with your Account email address and reason for cancellation.
No refunds are available after the fourteen-day cooling-off period has expired. You may cancel your Subscription at any time to prevent future charges, but cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period with no partial refund for unused days or Analyses.
Annual subscribers commit to the full annual term. By purchasing an annual Subscription, you acknowledge that the substantial discount offered (equivalent to up to five months free) is predicated on the non-refundable nature of the annual commitment. You may cancel to prevent auto-renewal, but no refund is issued for the remaining subscription period.
Analysis Top-Up credits are non-refundable under any circumstances once purchased, as they constitute immediately available digital content. By purchasing Top-Up credits:
You may cancel your Subscription at any time through:
Upon cancellation: (a) cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; (b) you retain access to paid features until the end of your paid period; (c) no partial refunds are provided for unused days after the fourteen-day cooling-off period; (d) unused Top-Up credits are forfeited; and (e) your Account reverts to the free tier with limited functionality.
The Service, including but not limited to the Extension, website, web application, algorithms, AI models, software code, user interface, design, graphics, trademarks, service marks, and all other intellectual property embodied therein, is owned by Honest Headlines and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. All rights not expressly granted in these Terms are reserved.
All AI-generated Analysis outputs, including but not limited to rewritten headlines, bias assessments, credibility reports, and contextual summaries, are owned by Honest Headlines. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to view and use such outputs for personal, non-commercial purposes only. You may not reproduce, redistribute, sell, license, or create derivative works from the outputs without our express written consent.
You may share individual Analysis results on social media or in personal communications provided that you: (a) attribute the Analysis to Honest Headlines; and (b) do not misrepresent the results or modify them in any way. Bulk downloading, scraping, systematic copying, or commercial redistribution of results is prohibited.
Headlines submitted for Analysis are third-party content. You do not grant us ownership of submitted headlines. However, we may retain anonymised, aggregated data derived from usage patterns to improve our AI models and Service. No personally identifiable information is used in such training or improvement activities.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You must not:
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to take any action we deem appropriate in response to violations of this Acceptable Use Policy, including but not limited to: issuing warnings, suspending access, permanently terminating Accounts, forfeiting unused credits, and pursuing legal remedies. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free operation of the Service. We may suspend, modify, discontinue, or limit any aspect of the Service at any time without prior notice or liability.
You acknowledge that the Extension may be affected by browser updates, changes to third-party news websites, or other factors beyond our control. We shall not be liable for any service interruptions, degraded performance, or functionality changes resulting from such factors.
Scheduled maintenance will be announced where practicable, but we are not obligated to provide advance notice. We reserve the right to modify, enhance, or remove features of the Service at our sole discretion.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. You irrevocably submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts and waive any objection to venue or forum.

If you do not agree with any modifications to these Terms, you must discontinue your use of the Service.
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any other documents, policies, or agreements incorporated herein by reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and Honest Headlines with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, representations, agreements, or understandings, whether oral or written.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid, illegal, void, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, such invalidity shall not affect any other provision, and these Terms shall be construed as if such provision had not been contained herein. The parties shall use reasonable efforts to agree upon a valid and enforceable provision that reasonably approximates the intent of the invalid provision.
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. Any waiver of any provision shall be effective only if in writing and signed by us.
We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, without restriction and without your consent. You may not assign or transfer any rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. Any attempted assignment in violation of this provision is null and void.

Section headings are for convenience of reference only and shall not affect the interpretation of these Terms.
The Service operates as a media literacy and critical analysis tool, providing users with independent assessment and commentary on publicly available news headlines. This function is conducted pursuant to the fair dealing provisions under Sections 29 and 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which permit the use of copyrighted material for the purposes of criticism, review, quotation, and reporting current events.
The Service analyses only publicly visible headlines—brief textual elements designed to attract reader attention—and does not reproduce, store, cache, or redistribute full article content. Our analysis examines linguistic techniques, framing choices, and presentation methods used in headlines. This constitutes legitimate critical commentary on media practices that serves the public interest in promoting informed news consumption and media literacy.
The "honest headline" feature generates AI-suggested alternatives that aim to present information with reduced emotional language, sensationalism, and rhetorical framing. These rewrites represent clarity-focused alternatives, not accusations of dishonesty, falsehood, fabrication, or wrongdoing by any publisher. The existence of an alternative phrasing does not imply that the original headline was false, misleading, or defamatory—only that different editorial choices are possible.
Our Service recognises that headline writing involves legitimate editorial judgment, and that publishers may employ attention-capturing techniques within accepted journalistic norms. The Service provides users with tools to understand these techniques and consider alternative presentations, empowering readers to engage more critically with news media.
Honest Headlines is an independent service with no affiliation, partnership, sponsorship, or business relationship with any news publisher, media organisation, journalist, or content creator. Analysis outputs do not represent, and should not be construed as representing, the views, positions, or endorsements of any third party. The mention of any news outlet, publication, or brand name within the Service is purely for identification purposes in the context of analysis.
The Service is provided in the public interest to promote media literacy, critical thinking, and informed news consumption. Independent analysis of media framing and headline techniques serves democratic discourse by helping citizens understand how information is presented and potentially shaped. This public interest function is protected under applicable law and international norms regarding freedom of expression and the right to receive and impart information.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, you acknowledge and agree that: (a) the Service provides commentary and analysis that constitutes protected expression; (b) analysis outputs are opinions based on AI interpretation, not statements of fact regarding the truthfulness or accuracy of any third-party content; (c) neither the Service nor any Analysis output constitutes defamation, disparagement, tortious interference, or any other actionable wrong against any news publisher, media organisation, or third party; and (d) you will not assert, support, or participate in any claim against Honest Headlines arising from the legitimate critical analysis functions of the Service.
